Hanley Economic Building Society has appointed Paul Learoyd as chief operating officer, joining the mutual’s executive team.
Learoyd (pictured) brings experience across the building society and wider financial services sectors, including operations, mortgage propositions, technology and transformation programmes.
He most recently served as digital programme director at West Brom Building Society, where he was responsible for the delivery and operational readiness of a major platform and business transformation programme.
His previous roles include senior mortgage, proposition and transformation positions at Admiral Money, Pepper Money and Saffron Building Society, covering product development, digital strategy and operational change.
At Hanley Economic, Learoyd will oversee key areas of the society’s operations, with responsibility for ensuring its technology, processes and controls support colleagues and members as well as its wider business plans.
He will also have a role in strengthening the society’s operational resilience and supporting its future development.
Mark Selby, chief executive at Hanley Economic Building Society, said: “Paul brings a strong mix of building society knowledge, mortgage experience and a proven record of delivering significant transformation within regulated financial services.
“As we continue to develop the Society, having the right operational foundations in place will be vital to how we grow while maintaining the high standards of service our members and intermediary partners expect.
“His experience will be a valuable addition to our executive team and I look forward to working closely with him.”
Learoyd added: “Building societies have a clear point of difference in financial services, but protecting and strengthening that difference means continually improving how the whole organisation works.
“My focus will be on helping the Society build strong operational foundations, supporting colleagues to serve members well, and to deliver sustainable change without losing the personal approach that is so important to the mutual model and our members.
“It’s that opportunity that attracted me to Hanley and I’m looking forward to contributing to the Society’s next stage of development.”
