Editorial standards and corrections policy
Mortgage Soup publishes news, analysis, interviews and comment for mortgage brokers, lenders, distributors and other mortgage finance professionals.
Published by Opus First Media Limited, our aim is to provide accurate, relevant and clearly presented coverage that helps readers understand developments across the industry.
Editorial independence
Our editorial decisions are guided by the relevance and significance of a story to our readers.
Advertising, sponsorship and other commercial relationships do not determine our independent news coverage. Buying advertising does not guarantee editorial coverage or favourable treatment.
We distinguish independent reporting from opinion and paid content so that readers can understand the nature of what they are reading.
Accuracy and sourcing
We take reasonable steps to check factual claims before publication, using original documents, data, announcements and direct contact with relevant organisations or individuals where appropriate.
Press releases and information supplied by companies are assessed editorially. We aim to attribute claims, research findings and opinions clearly, distinguishing what a source says from what we have independently established.
Where reporting involves significant criticism or allegations, we seek an appropriate response from the person or organisation concerned.
Mortgage products, rates and lending criteria can change quickly. Information is reported as understood at the time of publication, and readers should check current terms with the relevant provider.
Authors and contributors
Articles identify their author or responsible editorial team. Where we publish contributions from industry professionals, we identify their role and organisation so readers can assess their perspective.
Comment and opinion pieces represent the views of their authors. They do not necessarily reflect the views of Mortgage Soup or Opus First Media Limited.
We expect contributors to disclose relevant commercial interests or relationships that could affect how readers interpret their contribution.
Advertising and sponsored content
Paid articles and other commercially supported content are clearly labelled, using descriptions such as “Sponsored” or “Advertisement feature”.
Where a commercial relationship is relevant to a piece of content, we disclose it. Sponsored content must not be presented as independent news reporting.
Corrections and updates
We aim to correct significant factual errors promptly once they have been verified.
When a correction materially changes an article, we add a note explaining what was corrected and when. We may also amend the headline or other associated text where necessary.
Minor spelling, punctuation or formatting changes that do not affect the meaning of an article may be made without a correction note.
Where a developing story receives substantial new information, we distinguish an update from a correction. A subsequent change in a lender’s rates or criteria does not, by itself, mean that an earlier report was inaccurate when published.
If an article is fundamentally unreliable, or there is another compelling reason to withdraw it, we will consider doing so and provide an explanation where appropriate.
Reporting an error or raising a concern
Please email robyn@opusfirstmedia.co.uk with “Correction request” or “Editorial concern” in the subject line.
To help us investigate, please include:
- The article’s headline and web address.
- The statement or issue you are concerned about.
- An explanation of why you believe it is inaccurate or falls below these standards.
- Any supporting evidence or relevant documents.
- Your contact details.
We will review the information, make further enquiries where necessary and respond as soon as reasonably practicable. If a correction is warranted, we will make it without undue delay.
If you remain dissatisfied with our response, you may request a further review by emailing kevin@opusfirstmedia.co.uk, including the original correspondence and explaining which concerns remain unresolved.
Scope of our coverage
