Shepherds Friendly joins The Right DA Club protection panel

The Right DA Club has added Shepherds Friendly to its protection panel, giving member firms access to the mutual’s income protection proposition.

The directly authorised proposition from The Right Mortgage said the addition would broaden the range of protection options available to its member firms.

Shepherds Friendly’s income protection proposition offers clients cover of up to 70% of their income if they are unable to work because of illness or injury, providing a monthly benefit to help meet regular financial commitments.

The mutual paid 97% of income protection claims during 2025 and offers a simplified application process through which eligible clients may be able to secure cover in around 10 minutes.

Its fully underwritten product can also consider applicants with medical conditions including diabetes, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, raised BMI and back pain, subject to individual circumstances and underwriting.

Shepherds Friendly, founded in Ashton-under-Lyne in 1826, marks its 200th anniversary this year.

Chelsea Kiefert (pictured), head of DA at The Right DA Club, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Shepherds Friendly to The Right DA Club’s protection panel and to provide our member firms with further choice when it comes to meeting the Income Protection needs of their clients.

“Income Protection remains a vital part of the protection conversation, particularly given the financial impact an extended period away from work can have on individuals and their families.

“Shepherds Friendly has a strong proposition, including flexibility around client circumstances and underwriting, alongside a straightforward application process which should help advisers put appropriate cover in place.

“At The Right DA Club we want our member firms to have access to a broad range of providers and products so they have as much choice as possible when recommending protection to their clients, and the addition of Shepherds Friendly further strengthens our offering in this area.”

Phil Nash, chief sales officer at Shepherds Friendly, said: “As a mutual that has been supporting members for 200 years, we’re delighted to join The Right DA Club’s protection panel.

“Our focus is on helping advisers find suitable solutions for a wide range of clients, including those whose circumstances may make securing cover more challenging.

“We believe Income Protection has an important role to play in protecting financial well-being, and we’re looking forward to working with The Right DA Club and its member firms to help more people access the cover they need.”
