LHV Bank expands Leeds presence with move to Wellington Place

Published on

LHV Bank has moved to larger premises at Wellington Place in Leeds as it looks to support further growth and expand its technology workforce.

The fintech bank said the move represented a long-term commitment to the city, with the location selected partly for its access to technical talent and Leeds’s growing financial services and technology sector.

Wellington Place, in an area increasingly referred to as Leeds’s “Northern Square Mile”, is also home to Lloyds Banking Group, Rathbones and Equifax.

LHV Bank said remaining in Leeds would allow it to retain experienced staff, recruit locally and continue building its presence in West Yorkshire. The bank also has offices in the City of London and Manchester.

The Financial Conduct Authority has its northern regional base in Leeds, while more than 100 fintech firms are located across West Yorkshire. FinTech North is also headquartered in the city.

LHV Bank said regeneration and the city’s university base were among the factors behind its decision to expand there. Leeds was also recently included in LinkedIn’s list of 10 “Cities on the Rise” in the UK for jobs and talent.

The bank has recently won the British Bank Awards’ Best Newcomer accolade and appeared in The Sunday Times’ Best Places to Work list for the third consecutive year.

Kris Brewster, interim CEO at LHV Bank, said: “Leeds is fast emerging as one of the UK’s most exciting growth cities, combining genuine innovation, large scale regeneration and a thriving, research-led economy with access to the technical talent that underpins our digital-first proposition and the ambition that we’re looking for. Choosing to expand here rather than move elsewhere was an easy decision.

“The ongoing transformation of the city centre makes it an increasingly attractive place to work, and the long-term growth story of West Yorkshire as a key FinTech hub, is exactly the kind of foundation we want to build on. These new premises reflect our belief in Leeds and our commitment to investing in the region as we continue to grow.”

Chris Sills, asset management director at Federated Hermes, the asset manager of Wellington Place, said: “LHV’s decision to base its Leeds expansion at Wellington Place is a clear testament to the strength and appeal of Wellington Place as a leading business destination.

“The FinTech bank’s move builds on the strong momentum we’re seeing from financial, legal and professional service businesses that call Wellington Place home. They have not only recognised the strength of Wellington Place’s offer, but also our position at the beating heart of an important business district known as Leeds’ ‘Northern Square Mile’.

“Additionally, 12 Wellington Place is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most sustainable office developments, reflecting the growing demand for high-quality, future-focused workspace.”
