Gen H has introduced an artificial intelligence packaging agent designed to identify document errors before mortgage applications reach its underwriters.
The broker portal tool checks documents as they are uploaded, flagging potential mismatches that could otherwise lead to additional information requests and delays.
Gen H reported that correctly packaged applications received an offer in four days on average, compared with nine days when underwriters had to request missing or corrected documents.
The lender will continue to underwrite every mortgage application manually, with the AI tool intended to remove administrative work rather than make lending decisions.
THREE DOCUMENT CHECKS
The agent carries out three checks on every uploaded file: whether it relates to the correct applicant, whether it is the required document type and whether it covers the appropriate date range.
A broker uploading an out-of-date bank statement, for example, will receive a flag against the document and can replace it before submitting the case.
The system does not prevent brokers from submitting applications where they believe a warning has been raised incorrectly. Any unresolved flags will carry through to Gen H’s underwriting platform, helping its team identify documents requiring closer examination.
Gen H said the tool could increase the likelihood of cases receiving a one-touch underwrite while allowing underwriters to concentrate on affordability, risk and individual circumstances.
FIVE-HOUR FIRST-TIME BUYER OFFER
One of the first applications processed using the technology involved a 26-year-old, self-employed solo first-time buyer advised by Fluent Mortgages.
The case received a mortgage offer within five hours after the AI agent identified that the supporting documentation had been packaged correctly.
Dominic Braim, mortgage adviser at Fluent Mortgages, said: “When I uploaded my documents for this case, Gen H Pro gave me a thumbs up right away and it made me feel that much more confident when I submitted.
“The five-hour turnaround for this case was great, and my client is absolutely thrilled.”
Sara Palmer (main picture, inset), sales and distribution director at Gen H, added: “Things like names, dates and addresses are so easy to mix up, but these are exactly the kind of issues that can severely delay an application.
“When cases arrive really well packaged, our underwriters are able to spend more time exercising judgement and evaluating each case on merit, not chasing document requests.”
