Family Building Society has appointed Seb Mrotzek as chief operating officer, creating the role as part of its plans to strengthen operational oversight and support further growth.
Mrotzek (pictured) brings more than 20 years’ experience across banking, financial services, fintech, consulting and financial regulation.
He began his career at Datamonitor in 2002 before holding roles at Citigroup, Accenture, HSBC Global Asset Management, Barclays and Lloyds Banking Group.
He later joined the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulation Authority as divisional chief operating officer for banking supervision, where he represented the PRA on the Banks’ Cyber Security Committee and the Change & IT Board.
Mrotzek subsequently joined a fintech venture focused on establishing a new retail bank before moving to Redwood Bank, where he became chief information and technology officer.
More recently, he was director of operations at Finova, with responsibility for IT, cyber security, hosted services, customer operations, risk and customer audit.
Mrotzek said: “I am delighted to be joining the Family Building Society. I have been fortunate to work across regulation, banking and financial technology and I understand the importance of resilience, strong governance and maintaining a clear focus on customers.
“The Society stood out to me because of its clear purpose, distinctive position in the market and commitment to helping generations of families achieve their financial goals.
“Mutual organisations have an important role to play in the financial services sector. Mutuality supports long-term decision-making and creates a strong alignment between organisational success and customer outcomes.”
Mark Bogard, chief executive of Family Building Society, added: “We have a reputation for putting members at the heart of our decision making while continuing to innovate and grow.
“Seb will join our executive committee (ExCo) and will be responsible for leading operational functions and supporting our strategy for sustainable growth, member service excellence, operational effectiveness, resilience and strong governance.”
