Banks grow share of mortgage lending

Annual growth of the banks’ net mortgage lending was 1.7% in July, remaining ahead of the 0.7% for the whole mortgage market in June, according to data from the British Bankers’ Association (BBA).

BBA statistics director, David Dooks said: “The high street banks have provided almost three-quarters of all new mortgage lending during the last two years when the mortgage market has been very subdued.
