Afin Bank appoints Peter Hale as deputy chief financial officer

Afin Bank has promoted Peter Hale to deputy chief financial officer as the specialist mortgage lender prepares for further growth in 2027.

Hale (pictured) joined the bank as head of finance in 2025 and was involved in its launch in July of that year.

His expanded responsibilities will include supporting the development and delivery of the bank’s strategic and financial plans, alongside financial management and oversight of its balance sheet.

The appointment comes as Afin continues to develop its mortgage and savings operations, having launched just nine months after receiving authorisation with restrictions from regulators in October 2024.

Afin specialises in lending to borrowers who may struggle to meet mainstream mortgage criteria, including foreign nationals, self-employed applicants, those with non-standard incomes and high-net-worth individuals.

The bank provides residential and buy-to-let mortgages and regulated bridging finance secured against properties in England and Wales. It also offers FSCS-protected savings accounts, with further mortgage and savings products planned.

Commenting on his promotion, Hale said: “It has been a hugely exciting period for Afin, going from launch last year to now actively helping more borrowers to get a mortgage and offering savings accounts to help customers grow their money.

“Working in a start-up bank can bring challenges, but I really enjoy being part of a fast-paced business and making a difference day-to-day. I am delighted to take on this new role and look forward to working with everyone in Afin as we continue to grow the business in the years ahead.”

Charles Resnick, chief financial officer at Afin Bank, said: “Peter has made a massive impact since he joined Afin and is a vital part of the financial team. Peter’s knowledge and experience of banking and regulation has been of great assistance.

“He has built a solid finance team and infrastructure required for our period of growth, together with supporting on key deliverables required for a new and growing bank.

“This promotion is recognition of all the incredible hard work and dedication shown since joining and the important role he will play in the future of the bank.”
