Zurich UK Life paid out £60.3 million in critical illness claims during 2010.

The number of critical illness claims upheld in 2010 remains static with 2009 at 91%. Of claims declined, 8% were due to the definition of the condition not being met while less than 1% were as a result of non disclosure.

Zurich UK Life says the data shows a marginal decrease in the number of critical illness claims paid out in 2010 at 787 compared to 2009 where 814 cases were settled at a value of £62.3 million.

Phil Brown, Zurich UK Life, underwriting and claims director, said: “The claim figures for 2010 are again testament to the pride we place on paying valid claims as swiftly as possible – and to making a vast difference to customers and their families’ lives when faced with often devastating illness.
