Walbrook launches mortgage adviser apprenticeship pathway

Published on

Walbrook Institute London has expanded its apprenticeship offering with a new Level 3 pathway for aspiring mortgage advisers that incorporates LIBF’s Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP).

The 15-month Mortgage Adviser apprenticeship is designed to give firms a funded and fully managed route to recruit, train and retain new advisers.

Employers can now register their interest in the programme, which can also be used to upskill existing employees into mortgage advice roles.

Depending on eligibility and apprenticeship funding rules, firms could have up to 100% of the training costs covered.

BUILDING AN ADVISER PIPELINE

The programme follows the launch of Walbrook’s financial adviser apprenticeship pathways with Future Financial Adviser in November 2025.

The first apprentices on those pathways started this summer following what Walbrook described as strong interest from financial services firms.

Its mortgage advice programme aims to provide firms of different sizes with a ready-to-use training structure, including employer toolkits intended to help them support apprentices from their first day.

Learners will study online through LIBF’s interactive learning environment alongside a cohort of other apprentices.

As LIBF is a membership body and appears on the Apprenticeship Provider and Assessment Register, participants will also gain access to its professional community, continuing professional development activities and learning materials.

RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION

The pathway is intended to help mortgage firms bring younger talent into the industry while offering apprentices a recognised qualification and a structured route for career progression.

Gordon Reid, business development manager at LIBF, part of Walbrook Institute London, said: “As the biggest mortgage advice educator in the UK, it’s the natural move to expand our successful professional education apprenticeship pathways to the mortgage advice sector.

“As an apprenticeship and financial services qualification provider which is also a membership body, we can provide a whole solution. New apprentices will have the chance to be part of a network with both peers and more experienced professionals.

“Through this new pathway, we can help firms to recruit, train and support the next generation of talent using the national apprenticeship levy.”

NETWORK GROWTH

New Leaf Distribution is working with Walbrook on the initiative and plans to use the apprenticeship route to support its adviser recruitment.

Daniel Hobbs, CEO at New Leaf Distribution, said: “We’re incredibly proud to work with Walbrook Institute London on this exciting initiative to bring new talent into mortgage advice.

“With over 400 mortgage brokers in our network already, we’re looking forward to growing this number. Apprenticeships provide a structured and deliberate talent pipeline for growth.

“This new 15-month programme will support apprentices to gain their CeMAP qualifications and learn more about finding and advising clients.”
