Imperial Chartered and Cornerstone Finance Group have raised more than £11,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association through their sixth annual charity golf day.
The Cardiff-based finance and wealth management group raised £11,005 from the event at Radyr Golf Club, taking the total it has generated for the charity to £61,439.
Staff at Imperial Chartered and Cornerstone Finance Group have supported the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) since 2021, with previous fundraising including golf days, raffles, Christmas jumper days, the Cardiff Half Marathon and a 3,000 Squat Challenge.
The group had raised £50,434 before this year’s golf day and is now planning further events with the aim of generating another £20,000.
MNDA has particular significance for Imperial Chartered co-founder Gareth Morgan, Cornerstone Finance Group chief executive Haydn Thomas and Cornerstone Commercial Finance managing director Kevin Morgan.
They and other colleagues at Imperial and Cornerstone worked for around 25 years with Markus Matthews, whose wife Christine was diagnosed with motor neurone disease eight years ago.
A total of 23 teams of colleagues, advisers, clients and lenders took part in this year’s event, which was supported by former Wales and British and Irish Lions rugby player Scott Quinnell.
The winning team comprised Imperial Chartered guests Dai Walters, Danny Egan, Sam Thomas and Leo Llewellyn. Saltus Asset Management finished second and NatWest came third.
The day also included a charity auction, with Quinnell presenting the prizes.
The event was organised by Gareth Morgan and Markus Matthews alongside Jon Roberts, head of real estate at Cornerstone Finance Group, and colleague Alyson Hamer.
Gareth Morgan said: “Our annual golf day has become quite the fixture in the calendar. It is an opportunity to bring together colleagues and valued contacts, to spend time together outside of the office and to enjoy some friendly competition whilst raising money for a fantastic charity.
“We are so proud of the generosity of everyone who takes part and we know that their donations make a very real difference to MNDA.
“We’re incredibly grateful too to Scott Quinnell, whose enthusiasm and energy really lit up the charity auction and undoubtedly helped us reach such an outstanding total.
“This year’s golf day may now be over but we’ll keep raising funds for the charity, as well as awareness of the disease.”
The Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan branch of MNDA is run entirely by volunteers and covers Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
It holds regular information and social meetings for people living with MND, their carers, family and friends, while also providing advice, signposting to other services, specialist equipment and access to small grants.
