Melton Building Society chief executive Simon Taylor has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the Chartered Banker Institute.
Taylor (main picture), who is also chair of the Building Societies Association (BSA), received the recognition for his contribution to financial services and commitment to professionalism and responsible banking.
Honorary Fellowship of the Chartered Banker Institute is awarded to senior professionals who have made a significant contribution to the profession and support the Institute’s focus on ethical and responsible banking.
Taylor has worked in financial services for more than 30 years and joined Melton Building Society as chief executive in June 2020.
He became chair of the BSA in November 2025 and previously served as chief operating officer at Nottingham Building Society. Earlier in his career he held senior positions at Lloyds and Barclays, including regional director at Lloyds Banking Group.
‘A HUGE PRIVILEGE’
Taylor said: “I am deeply honoured to receive an Honorary Fellowship from the Chartered Banker Institute. To be recognised alongside individuals who have made such significant contributions to banking and financial services is a huge privilege.
“During a career spanning more than 30 years, I’ve been passionate about the role financial services can play in improving people’s lives and supporting communities.
“While Fellowship is a great personal honour, it also reflects the many talented colleagues, mentors and teams I’ve had the privilege to work alongside, both past and present.”

Tanya Retter, chief executive officer of the Chartered Banker Institute, added: “Simon’s Honorary Fellowship is a fitting recognition of his longstanding commitment to the values at the heart of our Institute: professionalism, lifelong learning and responsible banking.
“Throughout his career, Simon has demonstrated a clear commitment to customers, colleagues and communities, while helping to strengthen a resilient, trusted and future-ready profession.”
