Hinckley & Rugby backs local Wombles

A Leicestershire litter-picking group has received a £500 donation from Hinckley & Rugby Building Society.

The South Leicestershire Wombles, who organise regular litter-picking events around the region, received the donation earlier this year and spent it on some new much-needed litter picking equipment, including 32 litter pickers, 30 Hi Vis Vests and 15 bag hoops.

Joanne Rogers, assistant office manager at Hinckley & Rugby’s Lutterworth branch, who volunteers with the South Leicestershire Wombles, said: “A huge thank you to Hinckley & Rugby Building Society for their fantastic donation of new equipment for the South Leicestershire Wombles. The new equipment has enabled us to continue tidying up our communities, creating a more pleasant environment for us to live in and a thriving community for wildlife. It’s brilliant to have the support of a local business with a proactive approach to environmental issues.”

Carla Loughrey, Hinckley & Rugby’s assistant marketing and PR manager, added: “The Society were very pleased to be able to assist the group by funding some much-needed new equipment. They do such a great job keeping our communities clean and tidy and this is a great way to show our appreciation. We hope the new equipment will enable them to continue their volunteering for a while longer.”

Hinckley & Rugby Building Society recently pledged to do its part to become an environmentally friendly Society, having recently launched a range of green mortgages and becoming the first building society in the UK to complete Carbon Literacy training. The Society’s CEO, Colin Fyfe spoke at a fringe event for the recent COP26 conference, discussing the green consumer finance market and ways in which lenders can help borrowers to better understand how they can decarbonise their homes.
