Carter to leave Hinckley & Rugby to become StreamBank chief exec

StreamBank has appointed Hinckley & Rugby Building Society chief executive Barry Carter to lead the specialist lender from 14 December 2026.

Carter (pictured) will succeed Mike Kirsopp, who is retiring after overseeing the development and expansion of StreamBank’s bridging, commercial and buy-to-let lending operations.

The incoming chief executive has more than 25 years’ experience in banking and financial services, including senior positions covering operations, business transformation and strategic development.

He joined Hinckley & Rugby Building Society as chief operating officer before becoming chief executive, a role in which he has overseen the mutual’s modernisation and development.

His appointment comes as StreamBank prepares to expand its lending proposition, with plans to develop its presence in existing markets and consider opportunities in other specialist finance sectors.

Carter said: “The foundations that have been built are incredibly strong, and I see enormous potential for StreamBank to continue its impressive growth.

“There are significant opportunities to deepen our presence in existing markets while exploring complementary specialist lending sectors where we can add real value.

“I look forward to working alongside the talented team to build on the success achieved to date and write the next chapter of the StreamBank story.”

Nick Treble, chairman of StreamBank, added: “Barry’s appointment represents an important milestone for StreamBank. His experience of leading financial services businesses through periods of growth and transformation, combined with his strategic vision and customer-focused approach, make him the ideal person to lead the business into its next phase.

“We have ambitious plans for the future, and Barry’s leadership will be instrumental in helping us realise them.”

Treble also acknowledged the contribution of the outgoing chief executive.

He said: “I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Kirsopp for his outstanding leadership, energy and commitment over the past few years.

“Mike has played a pivotal role in establishing StreamBank as one of the UK’s leading specialist property finance lenders, building a business with an exceptional reputation and a strong platform for future growth.

“I would like to wish Mike a long, happy and well-deserved retirement and thank him for the lasting contribution he has made to the business.”
