TMG mortgage network founder and CEO Scott Thorpe has pledged to give every member of staff Monday off if England beat Argentina to reach the FIFA World Cup final tonight.
Mortgage Soup revealed earlier this month how football mad Thorpe closed the network’s offices following England’s late-night last-16 victory over Mexico, allowing colleagues to recover after staying up to watch the Three Lions progress.
Now, with Thomas Tuchel’s side just one win away from a first World Cup final since 1966, the TMG chief has raised the stakes again by promising employees an extra day’s holiday if England overcome reigning world champions Argentina in tonight’s semi-final in Atlanta.
England’s meeting with Argentina is one of international football’s most iconic rivalries and marks the nations’ first World Cup encounter since 2002, with a place in Sunday’s final against Spain all to play for.
ENJOY EVERY SECOND
Thorpe (main picture, left), founder and CEO of TMG, says: “Win or loose theres a reason to celebrate and all eyes now firmly on the Argie game.
“The atmosphere around this England team has been incredible and we’ve all seen how football can bring people together. If the lads get the job done against Argentina, I don’t want anyone at TMG worrying about logging on first thing Monday morning.
“There are moments that don’t come around very often in life and, if England are in a World Cup final, I want our team to enjoy every second of it with their friends and families. The business can wait for a day. Memories like that last a lifetime.”
Thorpe says supporting staff meant recognising the importance of shared experiences as well as business performance.
“We’ve built TMG around people, not just processes.”
He adds: “We’ve built TMG around people, not just processes. Everyone here works incredibly hard throughout the year and they’ve earned the chance to enjoy occasions like this without one eye on the alarm clock.
“Whether people are watching from the pub, at home or lucky enough to be in the stadium, football has a unique way of bringing everyone together.
“Hopefully Monday becomes a day for celebrating England winning the World Cup final, and if that happens, we’ll all enjoy it together before getting back to helping our brokers on Tuesday.”
England head into the semi-final after coming from behind to beat Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals, with Jude Bellingham scoring both goals to set up another chapter in the long-running rivalry with Argentina.
Victory would send the Three Lions into Sunday’s World Cup final against Spain who swept to victory in a stunning, if not worrying, display against France last night.
