Swansea Building Society has donated £2,000 to animal welfare charity Llys Nini as part of a £25,000 charitable fund established to mark chief executive Alun Williams’ 25 years leading the mutual.
The donation follows a recent staff volunteering day at the charity’s animal centre in Penllergaer, where 14 colleagues from the Society spent time helping with practical tasks.
The latest award means Swansea Building Society has now committed £22,000 of its anniversary fund, with £20,000 previously pledged to Faith in Families. The remaining £3,000 will be allocated later this year.
Llys Nini was selected in recognition of its work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals across South Wales. The independent, self-funding charity, which is affiliated with the RSPCA, supports thousands of animals each year and relies on donations and volunteers to continue its activities.
Over the past 25 years, the charity has rehomed more than 22,000 animals. Alongside its animal welfare work, the organisation also provides education programmes, volunteering opportunities and community facilities from its Penllergaer centre.
Swansea Building Society said the charity has also been a long-standing business savings customer, with the relationship extending beyond banking through years of fundraising and volunteering by employees.
Alun Williams, chief executive of Swansea Building Society, said: “At Swansea Building Society, we believe supporting our communities means much more than simply making donations.
“Llys Nini does incredible work caring for vulnerable and abandoned animals across South Wales, and we know first-hand just how much support charities like this need, not only financially but also through practical help and volunteering.
“We are proud to have a longstanding relationship with Llys Nini as one of our business savings customers, but our connection goes far beyond banking. Many of our colleagues have supported the charity over the years, and it was fantastic to see 14 members of our team recently spending the day volunteering at the centre.
“This donation is another way of recognising the incredible contribution that Llys Nini makes to our communities and helping ensure it can continue its important work.”
Lauren Pethybridge, branch ceo at Llys Nini, said: “We are extremely grateful to Swansea Building Society for this generous donation and for the continued support shown by its staff.
“As an independent, self-funding charity, we rely heavily on the kindness of businesses and individuals across our region. The practical support provided by the Society’s team through volunteering, alongside this financial contribution, will make a real difference to the animals in our care.”
The anniversary fund was established to celebrate Williams’ 25 years as chief executive and sits alongside Swansea Building Society’s wider charitable giving programme, including its support for Prostate Cymru as the Society’s official charity partner for 2026.
The Society said further details of the final £3,000 allocation from the fund will be announced later this year.
