SortRefer and The Moving Portal team up for prostate cancer golf challenge

Teams from SortRefer and The Moving Portal will take on a 72-hole golf challenge this summer to raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The event will take place on Monday, June 22, at Weston Turville Golf Course, with representatives from both businesses walking the full course across four rounds in a single day.

The challenge is intended to raise awareness of prostate cancer across the property and financial services sectors, as well as funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men in the UK, affecting one in eight men.

The joint fundraising effort reflects the relationship between SortRefer and The Moving Portal, with colleagues from both businesses taking part in support of a cause that has personal significance for several members of the team.

Kev Tunnicliffe, chief executive of SortRefer, said: “As some of you will know, I was personally affected by Stage 4 Cancer in 2013, but I was one of the lucky ones. A very good industry friend was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a few years later, but sadly, his diagnosis came too late, and the Cancer had spread to his bones by the time he found out, and his illness was terminal.

“Regular checks will almost certainly have found his Cancer earlier and would have quite likely saved his life. In his last 12 months, Peter Sowerby was inspirational to everybody who knew him.

“He completed the ultimate ‘triathlon’. In constant pain, he swam over 3 miles in the Atlantic Ocean in Madeira, whilst also running the London Marathon and he also organised and participated in a group 24 hour cycle ride from London to Paris, during which we had to call an ambulance to provide urgent medical attention for Pete 60 miles from Paris, only for him to then get back on his bike and complete the journey.

“72 holes of golf will be torture, especially waiting for Wes as he hacks it out of the rough and then uses all of his muscle to thrash it 80 yards down the fairway, but this charity means so much to me because of Pete. We’ve set an ambitious fundraising target, so any donations – no matter how big or small – will be hugely appreciated.”

Wes Davies, south east BDM at SortRefer, said: “This charity means a great deal to me, as cancer is something that touches so many of our lives. Most of us have either known someone affected by it or may face it ourselves one day.

“My father-in-law is currently dealing with Prostate Cancer, so supporting a cause like this feels incredibly important. I’m always willing to take on a challenge, especially when it’s for something so meaningful, and I know this one won’t be easy.

“But I’ll give it everything I’ve got. While hopefully still finding time to help the team search for their golf balls as mine sits safely on the fairway.”

Eliot Young, director of The Moving Portal, said: “I’m taking on a 72-hole golf challenge in support of Prostate Cancer UK, pushing my limits on the course to raise awareness and vital funds.

“Like so many others, I’ve seen how cancer touches lives—whether through family, friends, or our wider communities. It’s something that affects us all in one way or another.

“This challenge is more than just endurance; it’s about standing up to a disease that impacts thousands of men and their loved ones every year.

“Every swing, every step, and every hole completed is dedicated to those fighting, those we’ve lost, and the hope for better outcomes in the future. By supporting this effort, you’re helping drive research, improve care, and bring us closer to a world where cancer no longer has the same hold on our lives.”

Iain Dowie, former Premier League player, said: “Fabulous and very important charity that does brilliant work throughout the uk bringing awareness and providing vital early diagnosis, which is vital for a cancer that has become more prevalent!

“72 holes of golf must lead to better chipping and putting in my game. I’m looking forward to carrying my bag for 72 holes, only trouble is I will run out of balls.”
