Smethurst to don the lycra for charity

Published on

Wayne Smethurst, founder of specialist distributor TFC, has been challenged by managing director of Precise Mortgages, Alan Cleary, to cycle over 200 miles to and from an industry event he is hosting next week.

Cleary has pledged to donate £500 to the British Heart Foundation if he succeeds in the cycling quadruple marathon.

Smethurst will leave TFC basecamp in Warrington at 6am on Thursday 25 June to arrive at Cleary’s industry poker night near Solihull eight hours later. The next morning Smethurst will don his lycra once again for the return trip up to the North West.

He said: “I may be no spring chicken but I am more than happy to embrace my inner MAMIL (middle-aged man in lycra) for a what is brilliant cause, to get some much-needed exercise and, of course, to prove Mr Cleary wrong. He is more than welcome to join me next year.”

Cleary added: “I liken Wayne Smethurst to Madonna! Like the Queen of Pop he has completely reinvented himself into a super fit, teetotal athlete so I couldn’t resist sponsoring him to cycle to and from our charity poker night.”

TFC will be tweeting Smethurst’s progress next Thursday and Friday from @TFCHomeloans and using the hashtag #mortgageMAMIL.
