Gen H has doubled the number of complex mortgage cases receiving a one-touch underwrite after using AI to improve case packaging at submission.
The fintech mortgage lender said the improvement had been achieved despite a rise in case complexity, with the number of medium-to-high complexity cases increasing by 10% over the same period.
One-touch underwrites are cases where an underwriter is able to issue an offer in the same session in which they first assess a submission.
Gen H said the gains had followed work between its engineering and underwriting teams to identify common delays in the process and design tools to help brokers package cases more effectively before submission.
The lender said its team fed an AI agent with six months of underwriter requests to identify recurring issues. Changes made as a result included adding input fields for eVisa share codes, children’s ages where there are dependents, and deposit accumulation evidence.
Where further evidence is required, the system now asks for information upfront where possible, reducing the need for back-and-forth between brokers and underwriters.
Gen H said the changes meant more brokers were receiving mortgage offers in less than two days, including for more complex clients and cases. Year to date, one in four cases received a one-touch underwrite.
Grant Daines, mortgage and protection advisor at Just Mortgages, said: “I recently placed a case with Gen H for an affordability-constrained couple (>5x LTI). Even though the case had some complexity (the property had non-standard construction) I received an offer as soon as the valuation was complete and the system was incredibly easy to use.
“My clients were delighted to get certainty so quickly.”
Pete Dockar (pictured), chief commercial officer at Gen H, said: “These are the extremely positive results of the collaborative, forward-thinking work of our engineering and underwriting teams.
“Offering on an extremely low-risk case in a matter of minutes is one thing – but offering on a case with complex income, multiple dependents and foreign nationals in the same session on first review is a major accomplishment.
“This is proof that smart systems enable your best people to deliver the best possible client outcomes.”
