CHL Mortgages webinar to examine tax issues affecting landlords

Published on

CHL Mortgages is to host a webinar for brokers examining how lender fees, refurbishment costs and investment structures can affect landlords from a tax perspective.

The specialist lender’s Demystifying Tax: What a Lender Fee is Really Worth webinar will take place on Friday 16 October from 10am to 11am.

Roger Morris, group distribution director at CHL Mortgages, will host the session alongside John McCaffrey, tax partner and head of tax at Alexander & Co Chartered Accountants.

The webinar will consider the tax treatment of lender fees and how this can affect the overall cost of borrowing, rather than focusing solely on headline pricing.

REFURBISHMENT AND INVESTMENT STRUCTURES

McCaffrey and Morris will also look at expenditure on property refurbishment, including which costs may be deductible against rental profits.

Family investment companies will form another part of the discussion, with the session covering some of the legal and tax considerations associated with using such structures.

Morris (pictured) says: “Brokers attending the session will have the opportunity to hear a general overview of topics including lender fees, refurbishment expenditure and family investment companies, considered in the context of buy-to-let lending and with commentary from an experienced tax professional.

“By looking beyond the headline figures, the session will highlight some of the broader tax considerations that may be relevant to landlords and explain why these may form part of the wider context when brokers and their clients consider different lending options.”

Registration for the webinar is free and is now open.
