Atom bank delivered 36% of its near-prime mortgage offers on the day of application in June, setting an internal record.
The figure surpassed the previous record of 33%, which was set in May.
Same-day offers were issued for 25% of the bank’s prime mortgage applications in June. Near-prime cases have traditionally been expected to take longer because of their perceived complexity.
Atom bank said its processing speeds had continued to improve, with 41% of near-prime applicants receiving an offer on the same day during the week from July 20 to 26.
The lender has also introduced a new range of near-prime products at up to 95% loan to value. The mortgages are intended for borrowers with light adverse credit histories or thin credit files who may not meet the criteria of high street banks.
Richard Harrison (pictured), head of mortgages at Atom bank, said: “Slow turnaround times for those with imperfect credit cases have been treated as an inevitable reality in our industry, but we refuse to accept that as the norm.
“By streamlining how we work, we’ve shown that Near Prime borrowers don’t have to settle for delays, and we are getting faster too, delivering same-day offers for 41% of Near Prime applications during the penultimate week of July.
“Whether it’s Prime or Near Prime borrowers, lenders must recognise that it’s not enough to rely on an eye-catching rate. Brokers and their clients want lenders who can combine competitive pricing with flexible criteria and a smooth, stress-free process.
“Atom bank has built a reputation for delivering all three.”
