Ampla Finance has completed a £300k probate lending facility for a family facing an inheritance tax shortfall on an estate.
The specialist lender, which focuses on legal finance and inheritance-related lending, said the facility enabled the family to settle the outstanding amount before changes that would have increased the estate’s overall tax liability.
The family had already paid most of a wider inheritance tax bill of about £1 million using existing assets and investments. However, a remaining £300,000 shortfall risked delaying the administration of the estate as additional tax costs approached.
Ampla worked alongside existing funding arrangements, providing the final element required to allow the estate to proceed without disruption ahead of the 1 April deadline.
The case was introduced to Ampla Finance by an independent financial adviser, highlighting the role advisers can play in helping families manage probate-related funding pressures alongside solicitors and other professional partners.
Ampla works with introducers, professional partners and direct customers to provide funding for legal proceedings and lending designed to be repaid from future inheritance. The lender combines technology-led processes with manual underwriting and risk oversight.
Becky Dixon (pictured), growth manager at Ampla Finance, said: “Inheritance tax cases often become far more time sensitive than people initially expect, particularly where there are partial funding arrangements already in place and families are trying to avoid unnecessary increases to the overall liability.
“What can look like a relatively small shortfall on paper can quickly become the factor holding the entire estate process up.
“In this case, the important thing was fitting into a wider structure that was already progressing elsewhere, rather than disrupting it or trying to replace it.
“These situations tend to work best when everybody involved understands their role, communicates properly and focuses on keeping the process moving for the family involved.”
