Saffron Building Society is to stage a charity marathon cycle ride, involving stops at a number of its branches.

Staff will be lead by the mutual’s CEO, Jon Hall, in a 150 mile journey over four days.

Half the proceeds will go to Macmillan Cancer Support and the other half to the building society’s own charitable foundation, The Saffron Community Fund, which was established in December 2010 to fund good causes in the local area.

The Fund is managed by local grantmaking charitable trust, Essex Community Foundation.

The ride will start at the Saffron’s head office in Saffron Walden on 28 September.

Hall said: “Saffron Building Society has always endeavoured to help support good causes both on a local level with our community fund, and by contributing to large charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We can think of no better way to raise money than by travelling across the many beautiful areas in which our branches are based, and look forward to the opportunity to get involved in local volunteering and fundraising throughout the East of England.”
