Nationwide sees large monthly rise in consumer confidence

Nationwide’s Consumer Confidence Index rose by 11 points in May, one of the biggest monthly jumps recorded.

However, the Index still sits at 55, nine points lower than the same period last year and well below the historical average.

Nationwide attributed the May rise to the warmest April on record, the “feel-good factor”” of consecutive bank holidays and the Royal Wedding.
