LLA unveils New Horizons events

The Later Life Academy (LLA) has announced a series of events entitled ‘New Horizons’ to support new advisers and firms entering the later life market. 

The first five events will take place in November and include:

  • Leeds/Bradford – Tuesday 7 November – Best Western Plus Cedar Hotel.
  • Birmingham – Wednesday 8 November – Edgbaston Stadium.
  • Southampton – Tuesday 21 November – Doubletree by Hilton Southampton.
  • London – Tuesday 28/Wednesday 29 November – Retirement Advantage office, Cannon Street, EC4.

The agenda to be covered at each event specifically focuses on helping new advisers – or those who are looking to increase business levels – to understand the basics of the later life market, what opportunities are available, and what ‘best practice’ advice looks like.

Each event will harness the relationship between the Academy, the Equity Release Council and a number of provider partners, to deliver information and support about the various sectors, products and services – all in one place.

The key areas to be covered include: products; the sales process; factfinding and the older consumer; suitability and compliance; benefits and tax; the later life market; conveyancing and mental capacity; plus there will be an open forum to allow attendees to ask questions of the industry experts running the sessions and to engage with their fellow advisers.

Each event will start at 10am (10.30am for London) and delegates will be provided with refreshments and lunch, with the day finishing at 3pm. Places at each event are limited but it is free to attend – delegates will be charged a small fee on booking however this will be refunded on attendance.

Stuart Wilson, managing partner at the Later Life Academy, said: “The growing demand for advice in the later life market means we are often asked to provide ‘starter events’ for those advisers completely new to the sector, or those who wish to significantly upscale their volumes of business. This is why, in conjunction with the Equity Release Council and our provider partners, we have been able to launch these New Horizons events, the first of which take place in four venues during November.

“Understanding the basics of the market and what is required of advisers in order to compete successfully is an absolute must, and the aim of these events is to lead advisers through the most important areas including best practice, products, compliance, marketing, and a number of others. We want attendees to leave these sessions knowing exactly what is required in order to secure clients and to provide them with the best advice across any number of later life product areas.

“It’s obvious to all that this is a growing marketplace and one that advisers and firms need to take seriously if they’re to secure their place, and success, in it. The good news is that we’re offering all this information free of charge plus each event will be its own individual networking opportunity to allow advisers to develop or strengthen relationships that will help them in progressing their business in this area.
