Barclays to launch 24-hour fast-track remortgage service

Barclays is to introduce a fast-track remortgage service that could provide eligible borrowers with an offer within 24 hours and complete their loan in as little as five days.

The service will launch on 7 September 2026 and will be available through Barclays mortgage advisers and brokers.

Barclays said the scheme would give homeowners a quicker route to switching lenders, offering an alternative to taking a product transfer from their existing provider.

Research cited by the bank found that 20% of borrowers who switched lenders at their most recent renewal experienced difficulties, compared with 10% of those who remained with their provider.

Only 10% of those who switched received an offer within 24 hours, against 33% of borrowers who stayed with their lender.

Among those who did not switch, 49% said a lower interest rate from a competitor might have persuaded them to move. Some 23% said a faster and more straightforward application process would have made them more likely to consider another lender, while 18% cited reduced paperwork or documentation.

Under the fast-track service, eligible applications will receive prioritised valuations and conveyancing.

Roland McCormack, head of intermediaries at Barclays, said: “We know that remortgage timescales can be frustrating and unreliable, affecting client choice and leaving product transfer as the only option for certainty. Meanwhile, complexity for customers can narrow their choices before they have fully explored the market.

“We have designed Fast-Track to accelerate the process for brokers and their clients, providing a real alternative to product transfers and a more straightforward route to remortgaging with Barclays. Brokers can now focus their efforts on supporting their clients to understand their options, without time consuming processes getting in the way.”

Rachel Geddes, strategic lender relationship director at Mortgage Advice Bureau, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to support Barclays in bringing the Fast-Track Remortgage to market.

“Where clients have previously faced waits of several months in some cases to become remortgage ready, this new proposition means that can now happen in as little as 24 hours. That’s a genuine step change for both clients and brokers.

“We’re excited about the benefit this will bring, and proud to have played our part in delivering it.”
