Swansea Building Society has donated £10,000 to Prostate Cymru to support its campaign to place specialist cancer nurses across Wales.

The money was raised through staff fundraising activities including the Three Peaks Challenge, a Wing Walk and several running events.

It will contribute to Prostate Cymru’s Walk of Wales initiative, which aims to fund six specialist cancer nurses — one for each Welsh health board area that does not have dedicated support.

The mutual named Prostate Cymru as its charity of the year in 2025 after Martin Lewis, Swansea Building Society’s area manager for England, was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Lewis was diagnosed in April 2024 after attending a Prostate Cymru PSA testing event held with Swansea City Football Club. He had experienced no symptoms before the test.

Swansea Building Society raised more than £25,000 for the charity during 2025. It also sponsored PSA testing events in Cowbridge, Swansea and Carmarthen, at which 1,134 men were tested and 63 received urgent referrals for medical follow-up.

The society continued the partnership into 2026 and was named corporate fundraiser of the year at the Prostate Cymru Blue Tie Ball in Cardiff.

“We are particularly pleased that this £10,000 donation will contribute towards Prostate Cymru’s plans to place Specialist Cancer Nurses in areas of Wales where there is currently no dedicated professional. These nurses will provide vital support to people and families affected by prostate cancer, creating a lasting benefit for communities across Wales.

“Our partnership with Prostate Cymru began with a very personal connection and has since grown into something that has engaged colleagues right across the Society. We remain committed to helping raise awareness of prostate health, encouraging early detection and supporting the charity’s work wherever we can.”
