Nearly 76,000 sales lodged for registration in May

Land Registry has published the latest ‘Price Paid Data’, which includes details of more than 75,900 land and property sales in England and Wales lodged for registration in May 2016. 

Of the 75,937 sales lodged for registration:

  • almost 54,000 were freehold
  • around 9,000 were newly built
  • just over 20,600 sales took place in May 2016
  • there were 296 residential sales in May 2016 in England and Wales for £1 million and over
  • there were 182 residential sales in May 2016 in London for £1 million and over.

The most expensive residential sale in May 2016 was of a flat in the City of Westminster for £5,5m. The cheapest residential sale in May 2016 was of a terraced property in Hartlepool, County Durham for £11,400.

The most expensive commercial sale in May 2016 was in the London Borough of Southwark for £48.2m. The cheapest commercial sale in May 2016 was in Tunbridge Wells, Kent for £3,000.
