The Leeds supports Volunteers’ Week

Published on

The Leeds Building Society has 44 employees signed up to support a variety of projects for this week’s Volunteers’ Week.

These include refurbishing assault courses for a children’s centre, helping a school to create a new garden and serving breakfast to older people at risk of social isolation.

The mutual offers every colleague a day’s paid leave each year to volunteer in the community.

This is a way for colleagues to support their local communities, and also works as a team building exercise.

The mutual’s colleagues volunteered 2,530 hours to support 70 good causes in 2016, the equivalent of 361 days in total with over 30% of people taking part.

During 2017 there have been some terrific examples of colleagues getting involved, including giving careers talks, working in a local charity shop and organising events.

“Volunteering is a key part of how we contribute to local communities and I am delighted that colleagues from across the business have decided to get involved in volunteering week 2017,” said Luke Wellock, Leeds Building Society’s corporate responsibility manager.
