Leeds’ risk team clean local farm

Staff from the Leeds Building Society’s risk team used their volunteering leave at Temple Newsam’s Home Farm.

The eight volunteers cleaned machinery, exhibits and outhouses on the farm.

They were taking advantage of the Society’s volunteering scheme, which allows all employees a day’s paid leave each year to help in the community.

Maria Akers, estates manager at Temple Newsam and Lotherton, said: “The volunteers from Leeds Building Society really made a difference at Home Farm when they tackled cleaning some of the biggest and most unusual exhibits in the farm in the Seedtime to Harvest exhibition.

“This collection of historic farm machinery can prove quite a challenge when it comes to wielding the duster and mop so the staff were delighted to have such willing and cheerful volunteers.

“Visitors can really see the difference and it’s great to have organisations put time and effort back into public facilities.

“The volunteers were great and not phased at all by the work they were doing – we’d have them back any time.”

Kirsty Johnson from the Risk team said: “We all had a really good day and felt our time was very well spent.

“When we had finished we got to look around the working farm and also visited the house which was fantastic.”
