Leeds cyclists ride 70 miles for Hollybank Trust

Published on

24 cyclists from the Leeds Building Society survived high temperatures to complete the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride.

They were among over 1,500 riders on the annual 70-mile sponsored charity cycle from Wetherby to Filey.

The Society riders have raised £5,000 for Hollybank Trust, including £1,000 in matched funding from Leeds Building Society.

Hollybank, which cares for children and adults with multiple and profound disabilities, is a charity with close connections to colleagues at the Society.

The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride supports a varied group of charities each year, including Hollybank Trust.

“A superb effort from all our riders on the hottest day in the history of the Great Yorkshire Bike Ride,” said Kevin Mowles, head of business support at the Leeds Building Society.

“It was a fantastic effort from the new cyclists and I can’t believe how fast everyone finished the event. Even the veteran riders were posting personal best times.

“It was brilliant to see everyone in their Leeds Building Society jerseys and there were quite a few Society pelotons on the route.

“The organisers, the Lions, the charity and even the Lord and Lady Mayor of Filey all wanted to see Team Leeds Building Society at the end.

“Everyone was so complimentary about the support we provided for the event, including the Society colleagues who did volunteering work the day before to put up signs on the route.”
