Housing professionals raise thousands for children’s hospice

A group of housing industry professionals and friends have successfully completed a five day charity event to raise £40,000 for the Shooting Star CHASE children’s hospice service.

Shooting Star CHASE (https://www.shootingstarchase.org.uk) provides care, support and advice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families.

These care services are offered free of charge to families, 365 days a year across the western half of London and north Surrey.

Over the past week Paul Duckworth, David Ford and Richard Hurst from The Charlbury Group were part of a team of 16 that tackled the Iron Man Plus. The event ran over five consecutive days and consisted of a hike up (and down) England’s highest mountain Scafell Pike, 50 miles mountain biking, a marathon, 25 miles in open canoes and a 75 mile road bike stage to the finish at Richmond.

The event was sponsored by Conveyancing Data Services, AMG, Badger Holdings and The Charlbury Group who covered all logistical costs so that all sponsorship money raised went to the charity.

“This was a huge challenge and we are delighted that the entire team completed the event,” said Duckworth. “It was not a week without incident as we endured a herd of charging cows and even repeated attacks from a swan during the canoeing but we survived with only minor aches and pains.

“The financial support from colleagues, business partners, friends and family has been remarkable considering the current economic climate and to raise in excess of £40,000 for such a wonderful charity is something that we are all very proud of.

“Special thanks must once again go to Badger Holdings chief executive Tony Addinall for dreaming up the challenge and for his organisation and constant encouragement to ensure we raised the most we possibly could.”
