37% of UK homeowners don’t know if the contents of their garden are covered, according to a recent survey commissioned by insurance provider Paymentshield.

According to the Paymentshield survey, conducted by YouGov, 37% don’t know if their home insurance policy covers loss or damage to trees, shrubs, plants, hedges and lawns and as many as 44% admit to not having cover for their garden at all.

In addition, some 38% said they didn’t think their insurance covered loss or damage to bicycles, with a further 23% unsure if they would be covered or not.

Tim Johnson, CEO of Paymentshield, said: “Customers need to be certain about what their policy covers, and there is a need for brokers to educate them about the importance of financial advice.

“The rise of online price comparison sites is causing customers to miss out on important information about their policy and therefore they could be under insured.”
