The Women in Protection Network has appointed a new executive team as it enters the next phase of its work to improve diversity and inclusion across the protection sector.
The organisation has named 10 new members to its leadership group, marking a significant shift for the network as it prepares for an expanded programme of industry engagement.
change follows the decision by long-serving executive team members Catherine Trimble, Shelli Bentley and Stephanie Hydon to step down after several years in post.
The three have played a central role in shaping the network since its formation, helping to establish it as a forum for collaboration and advocacy around diversity, equity and inclusion within the protection market.
Catherine Trimble, head of intermediary distribution at Scottish Widows, said: “I’m incredibly proud of what this network has achieved over the last eight years.
“The industry support has been phenomenal, with friendships being formed for life, but it’s time for a new chapter.
“Fresh thinking and perspectives will allow this network to evolve, as we continue on our quest to help underserved markets and push for even greater inclusion and diversity.
“Whilst I’m stepping down from the Exec, I’ll continue to support the new team and look forward to seeing what they’ll be achieving into 2026.”
NETWORK GROWTH
The Women in Protection Network was founded to promote gender diversity and ensure that employees and consumers are represented fairly within the protection industry. Through joint initiatives, education, and industry engagement, it aims to support a more equitable market and elevate voices that have historically been overlooked.
Emma Thomson, founder and chair of the network, said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for the network. We have grown and adapted to meet the needs of an ever-changing industry, and I’m thrilled to welcome 10 committed women to the Executive Team.
“Catherine, Shelli, and Stephanie have made an outstanding contribution over the years, their passion and dedication have helped shape the network into what it is today.
“It’s been a joy to work with them and whilst we began as colleagues, we have become friends which is one of the benefits of the Network; meeting and working alongside some amazing people.
“With a larger team, we can build on what we’ve already created and have greater capacity to make even more of an impact, driving meaningful change and ensuring our mission resonates across the industry.”
NEW EXECUTIVE TEAM
The incoming team represents a wide cross section of the sector, with experience in marketing, sales, underwriting, claims, customer service, education and inclusion advocacy.
Members include Claire Nolan of Swiss Re, Caroline Payne of Shepherds Friendly, Emma Holmes of Aviva, Georgia Perkins of Legal & General, Hanna McKallip of Beagle Street, Joanne Legg of Royal London, Jordan Clark of Legal & General, Rachel Eason-Whale of London & Country, Rupinder Bahra of MetLife, and Shelley Walker of The Exeter.
Claire Nolan, head of claims and underwriting at Swiss Re, said: “Stepping up at this time of change is exciting, and I speak on behalf of my fellow execs when I say we’re passionate about making a difference and driving change.
“Our focus is on amplifying the network’s impact, and we’re excited to share plans for enhanced activity, including the Women in Protection Conference on 30th April – a key event that will showcase our commitment to progress.”
LOOKING AHEAD
The expanded leadership is expected to give the network greater capacity to deliver initiatives, strengthen engagement across the industry and scale its programme of events. Preparations are already under way for the Women in Protection Conference next spring, which will act as a focal point for the organisation’s work in 2026.
