United Trust Bank selects first ‘charity of the year’

United Trust Bank (UTB) staff have chosen national mental health charity Mind to be its charity of the year for 2018.

UTB staff will be raising money for Mind through various events and challenges organised over the next 12 months. The aim is to increase awareness of the work carried out by Mind and the importance of encouraging a working environment where good mental health is promoted and mental health issues discussed.

The Charity Committee have set a target of raising £2500 in 2018 however, United Trust Bank will match every pound raised, doubling the target to £5000.

Karen Bolton, head of community & events fundraising at Mind, said: “We are delighted that United Trust Bank has chosen Mind as its first official charity of the year and I’m looking forward to working with the UTB team. Mental health problems will affect one in four of us each year and it’s great to see UTB not only aiming to raise money to help others but also promoting good mental health in the workplace.

“Every penny raised will allow us to continue to be there for people who need it, when they need it the most and to fight to make sure that everyone with a mental health problem gets the support and respect they deserve.”

Georgina Reisser-Weston, chair of United Trust Bank’s charity committee, added: “We asked the staff to propose charities they wanted the Bank to consider supporting as it’s very first ‘Charity of the Year’ and after a democratic vote amongst the UTB team, Mind was the clear winner. Most of us know someone affected by a mental health condition, either as a short-term issue or something they battle every day. Mind does fantastic work providing help and guidance to sufferers and their families and they’re a worthy recipient of our support this year.

“We are looking forward to organising some entertaining fund-raising events throughout the year as well as encouraging individuals and teams to undertake their own sponsored challenges. We’ve set a target of raising £5000 including the matched funds from UTB, but we are aiming to smash that by the end of the year.”
