The Vernon wins community award

The Vernon Building Society has won the ‘Most Responsible Business Award’ at the Stockport Business Awards.

The award comes as the result of its customer and community efforts which this year focused on financial education, funding local community groups and providing empowerment to its employees. So far in 2019, they have delivered financial education workshops to 10 schools and over 500 children.

The Vernon Community Awards program donates over £10,000 to local not-for-profit groups in Stockport each year.

This year, finalists included groups such as Millie’s Trust, LGBTQ+ Youth Group and Smart Works Greater Manchester along with 11 others.

Alex Deakin, the Vernon’s marketing manager, said: “After being highly commended for Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility in 2018, we were determined to improve our offerings and become an employer of choice in Stockport.

“This involved a renovation of our office space at the end of 2018, a flexible working program, cycle-to-work scheme and volunteering days for all employees to have even more freedom to engage with our local communities.

“We are incredibly proud to have been awarded Most Responsible Business at the SBA. It means a lot to our people who are incredibly invested in the local community and the individuals within it.”
