The Furness appoints John Worth as non-executive director

Furness Building Society has appointed John Worth to its board, strengthening governance as the mutual looks to support long-term growth.

The Barrow-in-Furness based society said Worth (pictured) will join its board in January, bringing more than 40 years’ experience across financial services.

Worth’s career spans retail and investment banking, life and general insurance, and senior leadership roles covering finance, IT, operations and risk. He is currently chief executive at the Church Commissioners of England and has previously held executive board positions at a number of financial services organisations.

Alongside his commercial background, Worth has spent almost 25 years volunteering with the NSPCC, including six years as a non-executive board trustee.

On joining the eight-strong board, Worth is expected to assume the role of chair of the society’s audit committee when the current chair, Phillip McLelland, steps down.

Graham Berville, chair of Furness Building Society, said: “We’re pleased to welcome John to our board. He has a breadth of knowledge and expertise in financial services while his leadership in charitable and not-for-profit organisations will bring valuable perspective to our work.

“His appointment further strengthens the board’s capabilities as we continue to focus on the society’s continued success and long-term growth, robust governance and delivery of value to our members.”

Worth said: “I am honoured to be joining the board of Furness Building Society. The society has a strong heritage and a clear commitment to members and communities and I look forward to contributing to its success.

“I am eager to work alongside my fellow board members to help guide the long-term strategy and ensure Furness remains resilient, sustainable and future-focused.”
