The Exeter reports record usage of HealthWise app

Published on

The Exeter has announced a record increase in usage of its member benefits app, HealthWise, with more members accessing health support services than ever before.

The rise in engagement reflects growing demand for digital health solutions as a key component of health and life insurance policies.

In 2024, 10,356 specialist appointments were booked through HealthWise—a 175% increase from 2023. The number of app downloads more than doubled year-on-year, reaching 14,763.

The most accessed service in 2024 was remote GP consultations, which accounted for 74% of total usage, up from 63% in 2023. This surge underlines the increasing preference for virtual healthcare access among policyholders.

Beyond GP services, other key areas of engagement included:

  • Mental health support, accessed by one in ten users (11% of total usage)
  • Physiotherapy services, used by 10% of members
  • Growing demand for nutrition and lifestyle consultations, second medical opinions, and dietitian services

The data also revealed a significant take-up of health check assessments, introduced in late 2023. More than 2,700 assessments were conducted in the first full year of availability, with 56-65-year-olds leading the way in usage.

Engagement with health checks was evenly split between men and women, with 770 members following up with a remote GP appointment to discuss their results. Meanwhile, younger demographics were the most engaged overall, with 31-40-year-olds making up 23% of total users, followed closely by 41-50-year-olds (21%).

Isobel Langton, CEO of The Exeter, welcomed the increased engagement, stating: “It’s encouraging to see more members taking advantage of the benefits offered through HealthWise, which is an important part of their insurance policy. While remote GP appointments remain popular, it’s also encouraging to see an increase in the use of all available services in 2024.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to encourage our members to access the services available to them and are working closely with Square Health to explore ways to further enhance the HealthWise experience for our members.”

Steve Casey, marketing director at Square Health, added: “We are delighted to support The Exeter’s members and their families in the provision of the market-leading HealthWise services.

“The continued demand across all the services, together with The Exeter’s approach to marketing, means we are seeing continued use whilst still maintaining impressive customer feedback scores.”
