The Brightstar Group marks mental health awareness week with community action

Published on

The Brightstar Group is throwing its full support behind Mental Health Awareness Week 2025, running from 12–18 May, with a programme of activities designed to promote mental wellbeing and build stronger community ties among staff and across its wider network.

Now in its 25th year, Mental Health Awareness Week is led by the Mental Health Foundation, with this year’s theme focused on “Community” and the vital role that social connection and shared purpose play in supporting mental health.

In line with its recently published ESG strategy and 2025 goals, the Brightstar Group will use the week to strengthen internal awareness, encourage open dialogue and deliver tangible support to local causes.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TEAM

A series of events will bring staff together for creativity, reflection, and action. Activities include pebble painting and guided community walks, organised by the company’s Mental Health First Aid Team, and a whole-company quiz to close out the week.

A key initiative will be the launch of the Brightstar Group Community Action Project, which offers every team member the opportunity to dedicate one workday each year to volunteering with local charities and community organisations. Options will range from supporting food banks, schools, and charity shops, to helping out at animal sanctuaries and elderly care services.

WEAR IT GREEN

The business will also be marking the official ‘Wear it Green’ day, with all staff invited to wear green in solidarity with mental health awareness. A ‘mentally healthy’ breakfast will be served to promote wellbeing at the start of the week.

The programme is being led by Brightstar’s Mental Health First Aid Team, which includes Clare Jupp, Group Chief People Officer.

The initiative forms part of the Group’s broader commitment to environmental, social and governance priorities, embedding wellbeing and purpose into the culture of the organisation.

By combining internal engagement with external impact, the Brightstar Group is aiming not just to raise awareness – but to take meaningful action that benefits both people and the communities they live and work in.

Jupp said: “Mental health issues create separations within society which compound the feelings of those who suffer as being different and feeling helpless and lonely.

“Without appropriate help, mental health issues can destroy people’s lives.

“At the Brightstar Group, we continue to build awareness about mental health issues and to offer support if needed. We have also created an environment where our team feel comfortable to say if they are experiencing problems and to destigmatize mental health as a whole.

“This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week will help us all to focus on the importance of our community and how we can help others in a multitude of ways. The concept of ‘giving back’ is powerful; both for those who receive and for those who lend their support and time.”
