Darren McCauley has been appointed as the new chief underwriting officer at Tesco Underwriting (TU).

The appointment is subject to FSA approval.

McCauley (pictured) will be responsible for leading the business’s underwriting, pricing and anti-fraud strategies for the motor and home insurance provider, and he will also join the Tesco Underwriting board.

He has over 17 years of industry experience and will take up his new position later this year. He joins from Zurich Insurance, where he is currently director of personal lines, pricing and underwriting.

Geoff Carter, CEO of Tesco Underwriting, said: “Darren’s technical skills, experience and knowledge of the industry will add considerable value to the strategic direction of Tesco Underwriting as we continue to build on our Underwriting and Pricing capabilities. Darren is a very strong addition to the team and we are looking forward to him joining us.”

McCauley added: “Since the launch of Tesco Underwriting a couple of years ago, the business has continued to go from strength to strength against what have been very challenging market conditions.

“I‘m delighted to have the opportunity to help take the business to the next level and look forward to working with the management team to achieve this.”
