Tandem Bank has named Neil Chandler as its new chief executive, as the digital bank prepares to enter what it calls its next phase of growth.
The appointment, announced today and subject to regulatory approval, will see Chandler (pictured) formally take the reins on 30 June 2025.
Chandler’s arrival follows a strong year for Tandem, which reported a 40% rise in profits, revenues approaching £100m, and assets under management exceeding £1.5bn.
Nearly 40% of the bank’s lending is now classified as ‘green’, with more than £500m directed towards environmentally sustainable initiatives.
Chandler, a veteran of the banking and fintech sectors, was most recently chief executive of Aion Bank, where he oversaw one of the largest fintech exits in Europe in 2025 – the bank’s acquisition by UniCredit Group.
His three-decade career spans senior roles in digital banking, eCommerce and retailer finance.
“Tandem’s known for putting customers first. Yes, the products and tech are top notch, but importantly the bank is award-winning for its customer service,” said Chandler.
“That relentless customer focus – and the bank’s dual purpose helping customers transition to a greener lifestyle while saving them money along the way – is what attracted me to Tandem.”
He praised Tandem’s “purpose-led, inclusive approach” as a distinguishing feature in a competitive market, adding: “The timing’s right, and I’m excited to get going and lead this talented and passionate Tandem team.”
The move comes as current chief executive Alex Mollart prepares to step down after three years at the helm. Mollart is credited with overseeing a transformation of the business into a profitable, customer-focused fintech with a growing reputation for environmental impact.
“We’ve built something special at Tandem – a profitable, high-growth fintech with a bold customer-focussed mission,” Mollart said.
“The timing’s right for me to step down and I know Neil’s the right leader to take Tandem even further.”
Tandem’s chairman, Paul Pester, welcomed the incoming CEO, highlighting Chandler’s track record across banking, fintech and technology. “Now with Neil on board, we’re ready for the next chapter,” he said.
“He’s got the pedigree, the passion, and the vision to match our ambitions – with the perfect combination of experience across technology, fintech and banking.”
Pester also praised Mollart’s tenure, describing his work in reshaping Tandem as “phenomenal” and positioning the business as one of the UK’s standout digital banks.
