Swansea Building Society supports local foodbanks

Swansea Building Society has donated £3,000 to foodbanks across South Wales this Christmas.

The mutual is supporting individuals and families facing significant financial pressures due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. The contribution reflects the Society’s ongoing commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities it serves.

The funds have been distributed to foodbanks located near the Society’s offices, ensuring the donation benefits those most in need in Swansea, Carmarthen, Cowbridge, and Abergavenny.

Each area has received £1,000, with Swansea Foodbank benefiting from the Swansea donation. In Carmarthen, the funds have been shared between Carmarthen Foodbank and Llanelli Foodbank, while in the Cowbridge and Abergavenny areas, the recipients include Cathays & Central Community Fridge Project, Splott Breakfast Club, The Gate Food Co-op, and Abergavenny Foodbank.

The Society’s decision to contribute to these vital community resources stems from its deep concern for the financial difficulties impacting its members and the wider community.

Alun Williams, chief executive of Swansea Building Society, said: “We are acutely aware of the challenges the cost-of-living crisis presents to so many of our customers and their communities.

“Foodbanks have become an essential resource for many families, and we are committed to supporting the incredible work they do.

“By making this donation, we aim to help alleviate some of the pressures being felt by individuals and families across South Wales.”
