Students want counselling options within protection policies

Published on

64% of students would value individual protection policies which provide access to counselling services, according to research from MetLife UK.

Research among students show that 87.5% struggle with feelings of anxiety while more than two out of five admit to always or often feeling worried and one in three say they suffer from loneliness. However access to counselling support is an issue with students having to wait up to three months for help from universities and maximum waiting times at 18 weeks on the NHS.

MetLife’s MultiProtect policy enables customers to cover children up to the age of 23 and offers immediate free access to its Wellbeing Support Centre which provides emotional and practical support including telephone support services.

Richard Horner, head of individual protection at MetLife UK, said: “Starting university is an exciting time but can be stressful for students as they settle in and need to take responsibility for what most will have relied on their parents for.

“Being able to access free expert independent advice can help students adapt and enjoy life at university.  At its core, MetLife’s MultiProtect provides cover for  everyday risks such as broken bones – important peace of mind for sports-minded students as the football and rugby seasons begin.”

MetLife’s MultiProtect policy specifically covers broken bones including fractures and chips to bones. Child Cover can be added for £1 a month per adult insured and covers all children in a household, up to the age of 23 in full-time education. If both parents select the cover they can protect children twice.

Maximum payouts are up to £250 a day for UK hospital stays, £3,750 for broken bones, £250,000 for total permanent disability and £200,000 for accidental death. Customers can take out a policy from age 18 up to their 60th birthday and cover will continue until they reach 70.
