Paradigm has launched its second podcast, designed to provide an “informative and relaxed discussion” on topics relevant to the financial services community.

This second ‘Paradigm Podcast’ is now available and focuses on a range of mental health areas, and specifically how they present themselves within the financial services industry, and what steps can be taken in order to reduce them.

This week (13-17 May) is Mental Health Awareness Week.

Taking part in this podcast are Riona Mulherin, Paradigm’s director of marketing & operations; Aimee Carnwath, Paradigm’s senior marketing coordinator and AimieJo Shutt, national key account manager at Santander UK.

The podcast includes discussion around personal experiences, some statistics around mental health in the workplace, and also a specific discussion about ‘Movement’, which is the theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week in terms of exercise and how it can help individuals in terms of gaining better mental health.

It also contain references to suicide, and Paradigm are directing those who would like help with this and any other areas mentioned in the podcast, to the mental health crisis helplines information.

Future podcasts will cover issues around International Men’s Day, Menopause, Black History Month and more. Paradigm member firms can listen to the ‘Paradigm Podcast’ through Spotify or wherever they get their podcasts from.

Mulherin said: “The MHFA carried out a study of 1,000 people recently and found that 83% of them had considered changing jobs within the finance sector due to mental health issues. That is a considerable number in anyone’s book, and we wanted this podcast to focus on a number of areas which might be relevant to financial services’ employees and employers, especially in the context of Mental Health Awareness Week, which is taking place right now.

“Mental health provision and support is a major, ongoing workstream for Paradigm, not just in terms of our own employees, but also in terms of the support and resource we can offer to firms in order to help them find their path in a very tricky area, and to be able to offer everything their employees need. It’s a vitally important topic and we hope you’ll be able to listen to this podcast to find out why, and to learn more about what can be done.

“Paradigm are proud members of the Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter and are committed to opening up conversations and increasing awareness around mental health and wellbeing within the industry, which can often be a source of pressure and stress for those within it.”

Shutt added: “Our industry is as challenging as it is resilient. That resilience wouldn’t stand a chance without the people within. We all need to work together to create a culture that is open, understanding and allows mental health to play as important a role as physical health, so I was utterly delighted to have the opportunity to join forces with Paradigm to discuss this topic in what I hope is an enjoyable and educational listen for all.”
