Nottingham BS creates chief technology and transformation officer role

Nottingham Building Society has announced the appointment of Paul Howley as its first ever chief technology and transformation officer.

In this newly created position, Howley will lead the development of the Society’s technology strategy as well as being a key custodian of business change.

Howley is joining The Nottingham from the Yorkshire Building Society (YBS), where he was interim chief operating officer. Having been with YBS since 2014, he has held a number of key leadership positions and been at the forefront of pushing forward its technology and transformation agenda, as well as a “passionate” member of their Diversity and Inclusion committee.

Howley has also held senior roles at RSA, Lloyds Banking Group and RBS and is an independent non-executive board member of PG Mutual.

Howley said: “I’m delighted to be joining The Nottingham at such a pivotal time. Every person I’ve met so far, from colleagues to Board members, have shared the same enthusiasm for the purpose-led vision and the future direction the Society is headed. I immediately knew it was a place I could add value and an exciting success story I want to be part of.”

Nottingham BS CEO, Sue Hayes, added: “Throughout the search process, Paul demonstrated all the behaviours that matter to The Nottingham, as well as the significant technical capabilities we need to support the delivery of our strategy.

“Paul and his team will help us build the foundations needed to innovate and grow in key segments. He is a great addition to the fantastic talent and capability we have in the technology senior leadership team.”
