New professional qualification for asset finance

Published on

The Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) is partnering with the ifs School of Finance to launch a professional qualification for the asset finance industry.

The qualification will be based on ifs School of Finance study modules, allowing students to obtain the ifs Professional Certificate in Banking (PCertB) and then to progress to the ifs Professional Diploma in Banking Practice and Management (PDipBPM).

Learning materials and workshops for the selected ifs study modules will be adapted to the needs of asset finance practitioners and employers. Students will also complete a module focusing on the risks and business change issues facing their own businesses.

The firms say those taking the PCertB will gain a thorough understanding of the risks underlying financial decision-making. They will also be able to participate in relevant ifs and FLA workshops and events.

The first students are expected to begin working towards the new qualification in early 2013.

“I am very pleased to be able to announce the FLA’s partnership with the ifs to provide a new, tailored qualification for the staff of FLA member companies in the asset finance markets,” said Stephen Sklaroff, director general at the FLA.

“FLA members will now be able to benefit from a globally-recognised, rigorous and highly respected professional qualification which will enhance professional knowledge and understanding while ensuring candidates understand asset finance in a wider context.”

Martin Day, vice-principal at the ifs School of Finance, added: “The Professional Certificate in Banking is an industry benchmark qualification for those starting out in, or aspiring to, a management career in financial services. In working with the FLA we have been able to tailor the qualification to make sure it meets the needs of the asset finance industry.

“We look forward to welcoming the first cohort of FLA students to our campus in early 2013.”
