New chairman for ifs School of Finance

Dr. Paul Fisher, executive director of markets at the Bank of England, has been appointed as the ifs School of Finance’s new chairman.

Dr. Fisher replaces Bruce Carnegie-Brown. As a former chairman, Carnegie-Brown had been undertaking the role on a temporary basis following the premature departure of previous chairman Lord James Sassoon, who had to give up the role to take up his position as commercial secretary to the Treasury.

Dr. Fisher has been the Bank of England’s executive director for Markets since March 2009 and is a member of the Monetary Policy Committee. He and his directorate are responsible for all Bank operations in financial markets and their balance sheet consequences.

He joined the Bank in 1990, having previously worked at the University of Warwick where he taught and conducted specialised research on macroeconomic models.
