Most regions saw house prices rises last year

Nine out of 13 UK regions recorded house price rises in 2011, the Nationwide Building Society has reported.

London saw the strongest growth in the last quarter and also over the year.

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland was the worst performing region for fourth consecutive year and is now the least expensive UK region.

According to the Nationwide, the average UK house price is now £164,785.

The annual percentage change was 1.1%, while the seasonally adjusted quarterly change was 0.3%.

Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s chief economist, said: “Average house prices in the UK rose by a modest 0.3% in the fourth quarter. The annual rate of change increased from -0.5% to 1.1%.
