MIMHC offers free mental health first aid training

The mortgage and property finance sector is rolling out a series of free mental health first aid training events as firms seek to strengthen wellbeing support across the industry.

The Mortgage Industry Mental Health Charter (MIMHC) has confirmed the first wave of Mental Health First Aid training, with more than 100 accredited mental health first aiders expected to qualify through the programme.

The two-day training, which leads to a formal Mental Health First Aid qualification, will be delivered through a series of regional events jointly funded by the Niall Stringer Foundation.

The initiative is designed to help firms respond to the growing pressures faced by staff, introducers and clients amid heavy workloads, regulatory demands and ongoing market uncertainty.

The initial programme will run across five UK locations between February and June, with each event limited to 12 fully funded places. The training is open to anyone working within the mortgage and wider property finance sector, with no cost to attend.

MIMHC said the regional structure is intended to widen access to accredited mental health support across businesses of all sizes, ensuring support is available closer to where people work.

Gareth Lewis, deputy chief executive at MT Finance, said: “We are delighted to be working with MIMHC once again to deliver on their bold ambition to train more than 100 accredited mental health first aiders.

“As part of the regional events which are open to all those within the sector to register and get involved with, these two-day training events will ensure we have more qualified mental health first aiders, supporting staff, partners and clients.

“This has all been made possible through the fundraising efforts of MIMHC in conjunction with the Niall Stringer Foundation.”

MIMHC is urging brokers, lenders and service providers to register interest early, with demand expected to be strong given the limited number of free places available at each event.
