LLA to hold ‘Training in Care’ events in April

Published on

The Later Life Academy (LLA) is to host a series of events called ‘Training in Care’ with care specialists My Care Consultant (MCC) and retirement specialists, JUST.

These events are open to those advisers already active in the care space, those working towards their care qualifications or who require a refresher of the exam content, and those who are considering how best to provide advice in this sector.

The half-day events will take place in April this year at three locations in London on 10 April, Exeter on 11 April and Solihull on 17 April and will be split into three main sessions:

  • The first session will be delivered by Graham Duffy, care specialist at JUST, and is a long-term care technical session geared towards those preparing for the qualifications required in the sector – CII CF8/IFS Cert LTCI – or those requiring a refresher.
  • The second session, delivered by MCC’s managing director, Jacqueline Berry, is a practical one geared towards helping advisers to develop a commercially-viable care advice model.
  • The final session is, presented by MCC’s operations & technical director, Anthony Miles, and is an introduction to Care Box – an online technical resource offering support and tools for advisers active in this space.

Duffy will help advisers understand the features and legislation relating to the UK care system, comprehend Government changes to funding care, understand regulation relating to long-term care advice, recognise how financial and needs’ assessments work, outline the differences between domiciliary and residential care, and much more.

Berry will look at non-regulated care advice, the advantages and disadvantages of different business models, the important role of the ‘Care Navigator’ and how firms can work with care navigators to support their provision of good-quality care advice.

Finally, Miles will focus on the technical and practical support that is available for advisers and where to go for that information, plus he will be debuting Care Box which provides comprehensive support on both non-regulated and regulated aspects of care advice.

Stuart Wilson, managing director of the Later Life Academy, said: “We are delighted to bring another series of these events to advisers as part of our accredited training programme.

“Adviser feedback for the last series of ‘Training in Care’ events we hosted was five-star and it’s our belief that if you deal with older customers at any level, this will be a valuable session of knowledge to add to your later life advice proposition.”

Berry added: “We are thrilled to be collaborating for a second time with the Later Life Academy and JUST to run another round of care training events for financial advisers.

“At My Care Consultant, we are passionate about helping advisers offer a joined-up care advice proposition that is both commercially viable and achieves better outcomes for their clients.

“Our forthcoming sessions have been designed to help them do that, regardless of whether they choose to be specialists offering everything in-house, or whether they outsource to someone else.”
